Stop It Right Here…

A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.

Think of this protest/occupy/march/gathering, what you will. There is zealousness on both sides of this. I can only laugh at everyone, because I laugh at myself everyday. So yes, I am laughing at all of YOU. But, every protest/occupy/march/gathering needs a soundtrack. So here is yours. I present Stop It Right Here, A beginners guide to protest songs…

Under The Radar with 1980’s Soundtracks

In the Eighties, there were some movies that got recognition and some that didn’t. But, all of them had music that was pleasing. Here are twenty-one tracks that (somewhat) flew under the radar. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t credit my friend Alison for the inspiration for this mix…

The New Year is upon us…..

With amateur night ready to roll, I’m staying in. It’s safer, I don’t have to wait in line to go to the restroom and, hey, I’ve got a La-Z-Boy to relax in. I’ve talked about these guys in a previous post, so here’s a fan video for the second track from their third CD, OCB 3. It’s a tune that grinds right along, chug, chug, chug…

Here’s a mix of nothing but 60’s tunes guaranteed to take you back to that “magical” time when you didn’t have a care in the world. But I’m Hoping…..

It may be melancholy, but I’ve always loved Type O Negative. Dark lyrics. Dark imagery. Just plain dark.

These guys are a “MUST” see… the Olde Cellar Band

These. Guys. Rock.

I had the opportunity to see them live last Friday for the first time. All I can say is WOW! They have three CD’s of original music that stands alone, yet, they also play covers. But, it’s not the classic rock covers that you might expect. They mix it up and play the one’s that weren’t radio hits. And, they do it very well. Go to their website/Facebook page. See them live. Support local music by buying a CD. I guarrantee you won’t be disappointed.

Olde Cellar Band

I purchased their third CD, simply titled “OCB 3”. Yes.

Motorhead Will Kick Your Skull In…

Who would win in a fight, Lemmy or God?

….. Trick question. Lemmy IS God.

Because I don’t like holidaze…

New blog. First mix. This is for all who don’t especially care for merry-making and being all “it’s so good to see you” fake at holiday time. Personally, it’s just another day. The real meanings of the holidays have been so bastardized so as to be unrecognizable anymore. Whatever happened to the fire and brimstone?

Anyway, this mix is pretty much the way I feel about any holiday. But, especially the Christmas one. So, for anyone feeling the way I do about this time of year, this mix is for you.

Tracklist

  1. Nox Arcana ~ Ghosts of Christmas Past
  2. The Black Halos ~ Homeless for Christmas
  3. A Girl Called Eddy ~ The Little Boy that Santa Claus Forgot
  4. The Pogue w/Kirsty MacColl ~ Fairytale of New York
  5. Willie Nelson ~ Christmas Blues
  6. Joey Ramone ~ Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)
  7. Low ~ Just Like Christmas
  8. Sufjan Stevens ~ That Was the Worst Christmas Ever
  9. Legendary Tiger Man ~ Fuck Christmas, I Got the Blues
  10. Tom Waits ~ Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis
  11. U2 ~ Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
  12. John Prine ~ Christmas in Prison
  13. Ben Folds Five ~ Brick
  14. Murder City Devils ~ 364 Days
  15. Sufjan Stevens ~ Did I Make You Cry on Christmas Day? (Well You Deserved it)
  16. Emerson, Lake & Palmer ~ I believe in Father Christmas
  17. Jim White ~ Christmas Day
  18. Blink 182 ~ I Won’t be Home for Christmas
  19. Nox Arcana ~ Carol of the Bells

The mix clocks in at 73 minutes of melancholy misery. Enjoy.

Here’s a bit of a taste of the madness that is the holidaze. I’m a fan of any song that includes the phrase “old slut on junk” and still manages to pull off a genuine, touching love story.
